art

Working with colour, pattern and texture, my sketches and paintings are inspired by landscape, light and nature, using an expressive style to evoke a feeling and atmosphere. Never prescriptive in composition, they are more about my feelings and responses, often taking prompts from sketches or my own photography.  I like to work with a sense of freedom, using a brush or knife to illustrate the experience. Sketching and mark making seep into my work, often using mixed media, such as my own collage papers or collected ephemera. Exploring new techniques using acrylics, inks and watercolours as well as oil paints and pencil/charcoal is forever intriguing and challenging! Stepping outside into the stunning landscape around me just makes me feel alive and energised and I hope to capture this joy in my evolving artwork. Please enquire here to make an enquiry.

sketchbook

Keeping a sketchbook/journal is a useful and inspirational part of my art practice and a vital tool. Working with a sketchbook is freeing, as it doesn’t feel pressurised, and so even quick fleeting marks can be popped in. Trying out different media, mark making, colour palettes and techniques can all then feed into finished paintings. I often flick through old sketchbooks for inspiration or to develop an idea. This is where the magic can happen!
