Bereavement Centre, St Joseph’s Hospice, East London

My brief was to design and create 2 large window panels as part of the architecture of the viewing room. Working with an interior designer, and hospice team I produced many sketches and scaled glass samples for discussion and approval. It was important to spend time on this process to ensure the glass would be acceptable, as the space will be filled with emotion as families came to see their loved ones prior to the funeral. So I needed to work with a non descriptive design; more one that would bring gentle colour and pattern without being intrusive. Sensitivity to how people would be feeling was incredibly important. I needed to work large scale for this so rented out industrial size kilns for the manufacture. It was my largest commission and gave me many sleepless nights!
